Straightaway

There can be no shortcuts
If the way is straight
Only places you stop
To sit down and wait

Till you’re strong enough
To go on

Afloat

Khalid Mukhtar · March 31, 2020 · Leave a Comment

Life’s ever a sea
Of uncertainty

And it’s waters seem calm
Over cups of tea

But then the winds blow
And soon the waves grow

Till the flotsam of plans
Is what’s left to see

Leave the sea do it’s bidding
Come, my soul, to your raft

Enough, Already

Do your thing
Move along
Please don’t sing
Another song
Magnifying
All your doing
With us vying:
Aah-ing, ooh-ing

If it’s beautiful
You’ll find it
In a garden
By a stream

If it’s ugly
You won’t mind it
Best forgotten
Like a dream
In the morning
After dawn

Do your thing
And move along

Reminders

Seek the hidden blessing
That it may find you
Grateful for whatever
May remind you

Comfort Zone

Khalid Mukhtar · March 27, 2020 · Leave a Comment

If you haven’t got something
To be ashamed of
Don’t worry, Khalid:
Go look for it

And if you still find nothing
Then maybe it’s time
To learn what to look for:
No book for it

Cheesy

Khalid Mukhtar · March 25, 2020 · Leave a Comment

“I’m sure I’m right.”
“It’s crystal clear.”
“Epiphany”
“What else is there?!”

Let that sit
Like a bowl of milk
If it goes off, tough!
Wasn’t good enough

If it turns sour
Then best delay
Another… week
To get your whey

Survivor

Khalid Mukhtar · March 20, 2020 · Leave a Comment

There is no life that can survive
The desolation of my sin
A vast and barren nothingness
For miles and miles, all deep within

But one endures the worst of it:
A tree that doesn’t stand so tall
Nor is its spread of branches wide
It’s just a tree that’s there, that’s all

And there it is, a sole survivor:
Hope. My hope will see its death
Upon a wind that cuts like sword
That blows before my final breath

Running out of it

Go on consume the data
Just wash it down with a cup
(Sooner rather than later)
Of common sense

I hear it’s immensely
Low in stock

Viral

Khalid Mukhtar · March 16, 2020 · Leave a Comment

I guess a rumor
Can do to my soul
What a virus can do
To the rest of me
The latter is not
Really in my control
But the former is,
Wasting the best of me

Weasel Prey

Be wary of two
From weaseldom: who
Encourage your weakness
And praise all your meekness
