Sweet Poison

Khalid Mukhtar · July 26, 2018 · Leave a Comment

Sweet is the taste of remembrance
So long as the self has been slain
Or else such remembrance may turn into poison
Though all of its sweetness remains

Paradise

Khalid Mukhtar · July 20, 2018 · Leave a Comment

If came forth every soul of humankind
With their imaginations all combined
And forged a grand and joint imagining
More beautiful than mortal mind may bring
Therein begins a trace of Paradise
Where morsels of eternity may spring

Inspired by Shaykh Amin’s quotes.

Awkward

Khalid Mukhtar · July 18, 2018 · Leave a Comment

He’s driving
Keeps his sight ahead
Won’t turn his head
To look into your car

A lofty stance

But then he gets
To catch a glimpse
Cognition limps
But doesn’t get too far

He looks askance

And sees you
Seeing him – a grin
Recognition!
Although one deemed subpar

By rueful glance

Trust

If you trust the messenger
But doubt the message
It’s clear you must
Not trust its source
Or not know trust

ATL Concourse B

Scanning the shops
On the banks of concourse B
I find only disappointment
And almond bark thins
The disappointment is free

If Darkness Be My Fate

Khalid Mukhtar · June 29, 2018 · Leave a Comment

If darkness be my fate then let me be
The darkness that had hosted my Nabi
When came the Word, a Light that set me free
Yet let me in linger in that company

How blest the darkness in a silent cave
That welcomes in the Nūr upon a slave

Service

Khalid Mukhtar · June 24, 2018 · Leave a Comment

It isn’t really service
If you remind the served
Of all you did and what your service
To their cause deserved

That’s deal-making that splits
Your tauheed into bits

Float

Khalid Mukhtar · June 17, 2018 · Leave a Comment

When a leaf begins to blow
It doesn’t know where it will go
But go it does until it comes to rest
So let the winds of destiny
Deliver you to where you’ll be
Cool river’s playmate or warm meadow’s guest

Journey On

Khalid Mukhtar · June 16, 2018 · Leave a Comment

As you ascend the rocky hill
Or swim the rushing stream
To get there (because getting there
Is often times the dream)
Just know: your destination
Decides the load you bear;
What matters more than where you go
Is rather how you fare.

The Eighth of Ramadan

Khalid Mukhtar · May 24, 2018 · Leave a Comment

The world is a dark place
Let the twilight remind you
Step into the cave
And recite like a slave
Leave the darkness behind you
