Sajdah

The noise is slow to fade
The dust is slow to settle
The lead and rubber riddle words
Infused with burning metal
The silence becomes louder
Than the pounding on the door
Let hope return a forehead
To the dust upon the floor

Stand Up!

It’s harder to constrict the airways
Of an exasperated plea
For the fundamentally free
Human right to dignity

Get off your blasted knee

Adamic

May we speak in even Adamic tones
May our thoughts be clearer
Our words descend crisper
And our speech be freed
Of the demon’s need
To thunder or whisper

The Intellect Trap

Building homes and towns is hard
There’s a lot to learn and know
Roads and bridges, parks and ponds
Regulating all the flow

I can’t do it all alone
There’s an expert for the task
I can’t do it by myself
Have to find someone to ask

See this body’s like a town
Nerves and arteries like roads
Heart and brain, and lungs and bones
Going off genetic codes

I can’t do it all alone
There’s an expert for the task
I can’t do it by myself
Have to find someone to ask

Laws can be a gnarly beast
What they say and what they mean
Won’t spare even the deceased
If you miss what’s in between

I can’t do it all alone
There’s an expert for the task
I can’t do it by myself
Have to find someone to ask

Oh my self, my mind, my soul
Is this real Should I care
Why’m I here, and where’m I going
And what’s waiting for me there

I got this

To be fulfilled, I think
We should pursue goals
The way angels follow souls:
Leave the ones that stink

Gray

Here we are still painting dreams in our leisure
Blues meeting beiges and creams on the seashore

Reality flashes a cloudy day
In glorious splashes af middling gray

And here we are

All that’s within
And all that’s between
Alif Lām Mīm
And Alif Lām Mīm

Rolls off my tongue
With such ease
Like morning time dew
On a leaf

But it’s easy to miss
That it’s easy because
It came on a heart
With no traces of flaws

A heart that could bear
The weight of a Word
And a cosmos of Truth
On an Arabic stream

From Alif Lām Mīm
To Alif Lām Mīm
To Alif Lām Mīm
To Alif Lām Mīm…

If anger is the avenue
I take for sunset walks
Then squeeze my rigid heart to free
The water from the rocks

How could we ever be complete
Until we’re back
In that abode we started from

The doors of heaven never creak
To keep a soul away
From Whom it parted from

May the stench of my sins
Be dispelled
By a fragrant desire
For Your Rahmah, Maghfirah
And deliverance from the fire
