Afloat

Khalid Mukhtar · December 27, 2019 · Leave a Comment

The whirlpool of doubt
And the calm waters
Of certitude

Close Your Eyes

Khalid Mukhtar · December 25, 2019 · Leave a Comment

Close your eyes and let this be
Another opportunity
Just to see if you can see
A little better

Be a shame if you are blind
To the treasures you can find
Once you understand your mind
A little better

Seashells

Khalid Mukhtar · December 24, 2019 · 1 Comment

Some words
Like sea shells
Lay beneath
The sands of consciousness
Remaining there in silence
By the shore

That when
Some day
The waves
Of knowledge
Crash upon your beach
Their beauty isn’t hidden
Anymore

Banquet

Khalid Mukhtar · December 22, 2019 · 4 Comments

The adab of The Host
Who asks no guest
To exit His banquet

But He lets the rebellious
And profane to st(r)ay
In a subtle, Divinely
Elaborate way

Then leave on their own
All on their own
—
Hold fast like a layer
Of moss upon stone
Hold fast

Sweet Poison

Khalid Mukhtar · December 21, 2019 · Leave a Comment

Sin is sweeter
Than the sweetest honey
Drain the glass, you’re
In paradise

Watch the time turn
What’s warm and sunny
Feel the wind blow
Your heart to ice

Friday

Khalid Mukhtar · December 20, 2019 · Leave a Comment

The Thursday sun is in its grave
So flee the darkness for the cave
And drown yourself to ride the wave
Now dry your face and kiss the sand

Silt

Khalid Mukhtar · December 19, 2019 · 1 Comment

Generosity is a river
Every river has a source
And the source is the farthest from
Where the rivers ends, of course

You’re just the silt on the banks But, thanks

Keep Walking

Khalid Mukhtar · December 18, 2019 · 1 Comment

Walk the path
Heed the sign
Break a rule?
Pay the fine
Walk the path

Make A Plan

Khalid Mukhtar · December 16, 2019 · Leave a Comment

First of all
If you didn’t
Put a match
And some flint

In your pocket
Before you start
That’s the most important part

Now make a plan
Let it sit
For an hour
Or a day

Then come back
Look at it
In a condescending way

Make a change
Turn some screws
Run projections
Render views

Let it sit
Once again
While you catch up
With a friend

Grow your plan
Let it be
Like the branches
Of a tree

If there’s fruit
Well and good
Otherwise
There’s firewood

So make a plan

If nothing else

It’ll keep you warm

Fearfully

Khalid Mukhtar · December 14, 2019 · 2 Comments

The fear of being proved wrong:
Lose it, it’s weighing you down

The fear of being proved right:
Find it, and keep it around
