Car

Khalid Mukhtar · May 24, 2022 · 1 Comment

Your 'aqīdah is a carriage
Meticulously designed
And built to withstand
The road to Jannah

So when it needs repair
Khalid don't you dare
Use aftermarket parts

Know, Never

When I thought I knew
I learned I didn't
When I knew I knew
I learned no more

Weight

Khalid Mukhtar · May 15, 2022 · Leave a Comment

When gravity becomes
The soul-centering force of
Justice over which Rahmah prevails
Then we’ll see all that weighs
To balance the scales

Earthbound

Think like the sea
Act like a river
Stand like a tree
Talk like a mountain

Turn The Page

Khalid Mukhtar · May 10, 2022 · 1 Comment

Turn the page
There will be more
That you my friend
Cannot ignore

The sky is there
You’ve got your wings
And you will fly
‘Mongst other things

But find your bearings
In this cage
Don’t say a word
Just turn the page

And don’t you skip
The footnotes

There You Are

Khalid Mukhtar · May 8, 2022 · Leave a Comment

There you were
Now you’re gone
There you are
Drizzling dawn
On our dark
And dreary night
We will meet
By the pond
There we’ll be
Eagerly
Drinking till we
Become free
Of the thirst
In our song
By the hand
Of whom we long
For to return
Where we belong
Together

Restoration

Let Allah’s Name dispel your grief
And Salawat repair your hurt
So rancor falls as withering leaf
To drive your roots into the dirt

Doing Time

Khalid Mukhtar · March 26, 2022 · 2 Comments

Your faith will stand on its own
But you my khalid may fall
Unless you stand up for who you are
How will you answer the call

The world my friend is a prison
And all of its trappings a web
Protect yourself as you bide your time
And tide will finally ebb

Repair and ready your soul
Before that coming decline
Control what’s in your control
And everything else will be fine

Strutting

Khalid Mukhtar · March 22, 2022 · 1 Comment

You’re confident and sure
Assuming airs so pure
You see yourself unquestionably blessed

But here’s your mother gasping
In the rain you’re sending down
Of dagger words that pierce her weary chest

Now she can suffer daggers
And even cuts of swords
As long as she can see you through the rain

The question dear khalid
Is how will you survive
The Day you’ll need her loving touch again

Weighed Down

Come here you dusty traveler
And open up your bag
Let’s take a look inside to see
What’s causing you to lag

Oh khalid all these rotten words
Will weigh you down like death
Go fill your bag with Salawaat
To scent your putrid breath
